Monster Birthday!

Click here for this week's FCCB challenge post!

I'm busy making cards with the fun Valentine swap set I received from Liz through the FCCB blog. What a fun way to connect with our DT sisters! Liz stamped this cute monster and the sentiment inside from a Jaded Blossoms set for me

I decided to follow along with this week's Sweet Sunday sketch from The Sweetest Thing.

As well, over at Scrapbookers Paradise they are having a challenge to use 5 of Linda's favorite things!

From her list I chose:
1- die cut (behind the doily)
2- doily (die cut)
3- brad (heart in the wood veneer embellishment)
4- eyelets (green in the spots of the monster)
5- small adornment (wood veneer arrow)
6- button (lizard)
7- ribbon (green floral rickrack)

I coloured this cute guy with Prismacolor markers and coloured pencils.

I popped up the monster image with foam dots and then glued the front feet of the lizard onto the top. I couldn't remove the button shank, but it still sat nicely because of the height of the popped up image.

I placed the heart brad through the wood veneer hole, the banner, and the image. I used a Distress marker to colour the wood and it worked well.

Live, Laugh, Love

As I'm continuing to use the wonderful supplies that Liz sent me in our Valentine Swap I came up with this elegant card. I followed the March card sketch over at Scrapping Everyday Miracles - a wonderful blog to check out! Their theme this month is Laughter - so I wanted to include that as well.

At the Bitten By The Bug 2 blog the challenge this week is to use your favorite Cricut cut - mine would definitely be the Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge! I used it to make the frame, banner and the heart cut that is inside the card.

On the top right corner I white heat embossed a swirl image.

I popped up the layered frame cuts around the image.  The card panel had a floral image embossed on it so I coloured the raised areas with a silver gel pen.

I silver heat embossed the sentiment on the banner and then hand drew stitching lines around the edge with a black pen.  After I swiped the edges with a blue H2O paint.

I silver heat embossed the heart sentiment on the white heart die cut and again added the stitching lines and blue H2O paint, swiping some in the middle of the bible verse.

Party Time!

I started making some cards using supplies from my Valentine swap partner, Liz at Unik By Yes and just had to share.  It's funny, when I sit down with a specific set of supplies I get so many ideas - almost as if my creativity is better by not having an endless number of possibilities.

For this card I used the card base that already had these cute banners cut out of it.  I cut coloured card stock from the kit and placed it behind the banners and then added some baker's twine along the top.  I used the 'Party Time' stamp from the Popcorn the Bear stamp set by Crafter's Companion, which is adorable!

I used the Cricut cartridge, Savory to cut the plate with the same cardstock and then embossed it with a flower embossing folder.  I added the cute cupcake die cut that Liz sent, popped up on the plate.

For the inside I stamped the other sentiment included with the same Popcorn the Bear stamp set, and I die cut cutlery from the Savory cartridge.

Harry Potter Quote by Sydney!

My beautiful 14 year old niece, Sydney, recently joined a swap group I have been involved with for a while now - Lefty Productions.  There are such a wonderful group of ladies who share amazing, heartfelt projects - and our fearless leader, Joanna, who comes up with a fabulous new swap idea each month!

I was the lucky recipient of Sydney's mixed media quote card - this girl is incredible! I totally had to post her project on my blog to share and enter it into Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge - Tick Tock.

She chose a quote from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. She embossed the black background and coloured in some of the clock cogs with a gold gel pen - ingenious!

Love the way she layered these clocks and added Distress Inks.

How cool is this hourglass?!

I'm crossing my fingers that Sydney will be this week's winner of a gift certificate from Simon Says Stamp! There are so many amazing entries there and the Design Team once again has created fabulous projects - be sure to check them out!

$10.00 Gift Certificate
To qualify for the prize, be sure to use at least 1 Cricut cut on your project and if it's not obvious, let us know what cartridge you used.

Here's my project:

For my holiday I chose Birthday! Technically it's not a holiday, but everyone really should have a holiday on their birthday :).

I cut this cute monster from the Mini Monster Cricut cartridge.  I was designing it as a 'boy' card, so I kept the colours fairly primary. The balloons are stamped from the stamp set which came with the January 2014 Simon Says Stamp card kit.  The strings and little ties are from the same set. I used a white gel pen to highlight the balloons and the sentiment is a rub-on (happy) and a CTMH stamp (birthday).

The monster is popped up over the balloon strings, and I added a little shading with Distress Ink around his edges.

I used some K & Company paper for the background and a 6x6 Little Yellow Bicycle paper pad for the monster and red plaid.

Keep Smiling!

I was inspired by so many challenges this week to create this fun, colourful box and card with the Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge.

I chose a Mardi Gras inspired theme and used the colours green, purple and gold.

I cut a scroll from the same cartridge and used it as a stencil, inking around it with Distress Ink on the top flaps of the box and the front of the card.

I sponged ink on the edge of the card and sides of the box and added Perfect Pearls for shimmer.

I stenciled on stars with a Heidi Swapp stencil and homemade texture paste, and then added gold embossing powder.

Inside I used the Simon Says Stamp sentiment from the set that came with the February 2014 card kit, embossed in gold.

I added gold ribbon to tie the box closed and green and purple flowers, cut with the same cartridge again, into which I placed a pearl in each centre.

I usually don't incorporate so many challenges, but this fit together perfectly!

FCCB Challenge 199 - All About You

Happy Monday and welcome to another Monday challenge!

Challenge #199: All About You
Use your favorite colors

Carri~abusybee from DoubleClick Store3 Bags of Skittles

To qualify for the prize, be sure to use at least 1 Cricut cut on your project and if it's not obvious, let us know what cartridge you used.

Here's my project -

When I started thinking about this project I wasn't sure where to go with it. I'm not sure that I have a specific favourite colour- but my fav style right now is mixed media, and I love Christmas, so that's how this piece started. For a swap I'm participating in this month we were to create a piece featuring a quote from a movie, and I chose this one from the movie Elf. I was inspired by an art journal page by the very talented Vicky Papaioannou.

I first started by mod-podging a piece of tissue paper to a 5x7 background and then used some homemade texture paste to stencil on a background of stars with a Heidi Swapp stencil. I used the Art Philosophy Cricut cart to cut the presents out of Heidi Swapp's Believe papers, and used sparkly watercolour paints on watercolour paper to colour the bows. I then glued some baker's twine to each present and used Distress markers to add shadows.

The soldier is a Tim Holtz stamp I stamped on watercolour paper and coloured with Distress markers.  I cut the holly and berries from the Stretch Your Imagination cartridge and added Stickles, highlights with white gel pen and shadows with Distress markers.

The music notes are cut from the Gypsy Wandering cartridge, painted with sparkly black paint and highlighted with white gel pen.  I printed my quote and cut it into strips and glued it onto a card from the Believe collection, first punching the top with a notebook punch before mod-podging it onto the background.  I traced around all the pieces I added with a black permanent pen to give it depth.

I hope you all have a very cheerful week, and be sure to join us over at the FCCB blog to check out what the rest of the design team has created and to link up your creation!

Happy crafting!
