Creative Chemistry 2 - Distress Paint Crackle

Here is another fun and addictive technique by Tim Holtz - Distress Paint Crackle, in his Creative Chemistry Class 2 at Online Card Classes.

For my tag I cut out leaves from the Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge and covered them with Distress Rock Candy Crackle.  After they dried I sponged on Distress Paints and then went over with some Distress Stain and Inks to highlight the crackles.  So cool!

For my card I used the same technique to cover all my chipboard pieces and then I punched a hole in the flower and heart to hang the jump rings and attach the heart, which hangs freely.

I layered chipboard pieces, paper flowers and a gem to complete the flower - I just love the look of the crackle!

I used the Tim Holtz ChitChat stickers, stained with Distress Stains to create a sentiment.

I used the Tim Holtz Resist Paper Stash, covered with Distress Stains, for the inside of my frame.  I coloured the butterfly with Tombow Markers and Rock Candy Glitter.

Creative Chemistry 2 - Paint Marbling

I am soooo excited to start Tim Holtz' class - Creative Chemistry 2 at Online Card Classes!  There were 6 techniques shared just for Day 1!

In the first technique video Tim showed how to marble Distress Paints.  It gives such a cool effect! Then, we were inspired by Shari Carroll, as a guest designer, featuring this marbling technique. I made a tag showing the technique and then 2 more tags using this technique.  So fun!

I applied the paints on my craft mat to create the marbling effect.

Then I sponged over the tag with Distress Inks to give it more depth.

Just love how this looks!

I made two tags inspired by Shari Carroll's tag. She is just so talented!

I cut petals off of a larger flower and trimmed them with zigzag edged scissors for leaves.

Gate Fold Housewarming Card

This card was inspired by Joy from Obsessed With Scrapbooking.  She has some amazing video tutorials on You Tube. You can see her gate fold card video here. She did a Christmas card, but I adapted it for a housewarming.

September 2013 Tim Holtz inspired Tag

I finally got a Tim Holtz tag done, yay!, in the month Tim featured his tag :).  I have a love affair with stencils right now and Tim's new stencils make me drool, but I haven't gotten ahold of any yet. I used Dylusions stencils and Crafters Workshop stencils on this project, and followed along with Tim's wonderful instructions on his website. 

I used Gesso through a circle stencil, using just part of the stencil. I then dried it with my heat tool.

I then used the Snow Cap paint dauber through the alphabet stencil, drying my tag, and then adding my 3 colours of Distress Stain. 

I sponged brown Distress Ink over a lined stencil on top of the Gesso. 

 

I then sponged on a few more stencils in different areas of the tag. 

I used the same colours of stain to colour my crinkle ribbon. 

I then sponged an arrow stencil over my ribbon. 

 

I used the shiny brass Distress Stain to ink up the Tim Holtz butterfly stamp and stamped on the left side of the tag (notice the alphabet stencil on the left and the arrow stencil on the right). I also used an edge distressing tool around the sides.

 

I added words from the Tim Holtz Chatter sticker book on the bottom right- edged in black, the gold circle on the bottom left and the key hung from a safety pin on the ribbon.

 

It was so fun making this tag! This was like taking a little mini class from Tim and gets you using those supplies you might not normally use together. Speaking of classes, I am really looking forward to Tim's Creative Chemistry class on Online Card Classes coming up in October. Here's to getting inky!

Halloween Inchies Exchange

This month at the Lefty Production Swap FB page we are exchanging Halloween Inchies in 1", 1.5" and 2".  I've never made them before, but I definitely had fun making these! The only problem is wanting to add more and they are sooo teeny :).  Simon Says Wednesday Challenge this week is to use embossing on your project and that's what I did!

 

For the 1st 1" inchie I glued a punched orange inked pumpkin onto a piece of purple cardstock, which I then placed into a Bingo embossing folder, under the number 31, and dry embossed.  I coated the raised numbers with Glossy Accents and added a punched candy wrapper.

 

For the 2nd 1" inchie I cut out a pumpkin from the Tim Holtz Seasonal paper line and coated the edges with Versamark and then dipped them in embossing powder (Shabby white- which is a mixture of white and gold glitter) and then added some Glossy Accents to the pumpkin and a punched leaf with a bit of Stickles.

 

 

For this 1.5" inchie I layered 3 coats of UTEE and on the last coat pressed in the punched bat and the green beads for the eyes and the red bead for the flower center.

I put a bit of washi tape on this 1.5" inchie and embossed my words on top of it.  I cut the skull out of a piece of patterned Halloween paper and put Crackle Accents on the teeth, Stickles on the leaves and glued beads to the eye sockets - spooky!

I used Tim Holtz Peeled Paint Distress embossing powder for the witches shoes and stocking on this 2" inchie, onto a background of the TH Seasonal paper. I coloured them in with Souffle gel pens and then stamped and heat embossed the black spider web. I used a little chalk pencil for outlining.  The eyeballs are stickers that I put Crackle Accents on and popped up with foam dots.

For the last 2" inchie I heat embossed Trick or Treat in gold embossing powder on Tim Holtz Seasonal paper and placed a punched silver ghost on top using foam tape.

This was a fun way to use up some Halloween stuff in my stash and was a nice quick project!
