Smile Lawn Fawn Birthday Card!

Well, I'm just having so much fun over at Tim Holtz' Creative Chemistry 103 this week that I had to use two of his techniques from Day 1 on this card!

One of the techniques for Day 1 was Distress DIY Ombre. That inspired me to get out this Dylusions customizable ink pad that I've had in my stash for a while! It's a foam pad that you can add your own inks to. Since I don't have many Distress Reinkers like Tim used in his instructions I thought I'd use my Dylusions sprays. I masked each strip off with paper before spraying with my desired ink spray colour and created this fun and bright ink pad. This pad is fully washable, so you can change it whenever you want.

I used my new ink pad to stamp on several different types of paper with a couple different stamps. Love it!

I added a background of patterned paper from the Fancy Free collection and then layered my chevron stamped inky background, cut into 3 pieces on top. Behind my watercolour birthday background, using Year Three and Love You A Latte stamps, I added lots of fun patterned paper layers and handcut a little banner, adding the smile sentiment.

 
The second technique I used from Day 1 was Distress Off Set Stamping. I stamped these adorable Lawn Fawn stamps on watercolour paper, using Antique Linen Distress Ink and masking to create this little birthday scene. I am totally craving cake now ;) I watercoloured my images in by smooshing my Distress Inks on a craft sheet and using my waterbrush to pick up the ink. The Antique Linen ink allows you to get the 'no line colouring' effect. After colouring in I went back over my image and stamped with black Archival Ink. You can see it doesn't quite line up, which gives it that little off set watercolour look!

Inside, I used the sentiment stamp from the birthday stamp set, Year Three, and used papers from Paige Evans' Fancy Free collection again.

Distress Stained Kraft Resist Card!

Hi Crafty Friends! I'm back today with an inky card I made while watching the Day 5 video from Tim Holtz' Creative Chemistry 101. This was such a great refresher and I can't wait to try out all the other techniques. This card focuses on using Distress Stains and stamping.

I started off by cutting a piece of the 12x12 Kraft Resist paper pad into a 4 x 5.25" piece and first adding a light layer of Picket Fence Distress Stain. Then I added Worn Lipstick and Shaded Lilac and dried my background. You can see the resist script standing out below.

Next I took Distress Inks and blended them onto my background. I love how this adds another layer of inky fun!

I used a grey shade of Archival Ink to stamp this Tim Holtz man with the umbrella and used - my new favourite! background stamps to stamp around the edges. I added some Utee to some stamped images to add a bubbly, watery effect. I find if you heat the image from behind it will melt easier without blowing the powder around.

Here's a look at the envelope where I used some coordinating Tim Holtz stencils and stamps. You can also see how the resist really shows up after layering on some Distress Inks! I added a little banner, popped up with foam dots, with a couple more Distress stains blended onto the Kraft paper and a Tim Holtz sentiment stamp using Black Archival Ink.

Double Distress Tag!

It's been a busy week here this week! We had Grandma come to visit on Sunday and the girls have been so excited that she is spending the week with us. We took a little trip to the Farmers Market, and she got to see Erica's soccer game tonight as well as doing lots of puzzles, reading books, playing games and having snuggles. Of course, I did manage to sneak in a little crafty time and grabbed a tag to play with quickly. After I heat embossed it with a woodgrain stamp I realized I had already stamped on the other side with some fun Art Foamies stamps, but instead of starting over I just decided, hey, why not decorate both sides?!!

I'm retaking the Tim Holtz Creative Chemistry 101 class from Online Card Classes - and loving the review! This was the perfect opportunity to use some of the fun techniques Tim is so awesome at teaching. Here's the first side of my tag:

I started off by heat embossing with Versamark and clear embossing powder using a woodgrain stamp. Then, I used Distress Inks in Candied Apple, Blueprint Sketch, and Wilted Violet to blend my background, which created a neat effect where the embossing powder resisted. I used some Archival Ink to stamp on some stamps and added some CTMH woodgrain washi tape.

I added a couple more stamps and some hearts which I cut with my Cricut, embossed with my Cuttlebug, sponged Distress Ink on and stamped a script stamp on. The Ground Espresso Distress Ink was great to sponge around the outside edges of my hearts and tag.

 Here's a couple close ups of the tag. I framed a butterfly with a wood piece and added some sequins from the 28 Lilac Lane collection.

Now, for the second side! I coloured the seam binding ribbon with Distress Inks misted with water. I just love this effect.

Since the dragonflies were already stamped with Distress Paint and dry, I smooshed Lucky Clover and Carved Pumpkin Distress Inks on my craft mat and added some water before laying the tag in it and drying several times in between to add some colour, using techniques from the Wrinkle Free Distress Technique. Then I used some Archival Ink to add some stamped images.

I added a little more colour around the edges with Ground Espresso Distress Ink and painted the butterflies using the Izink inks - love these! I even used the paint brush to flick on some extra paint and then misted with the Tim Holtz Mica Spray - so pretty!

Here, you can see where I've glued on some pearls and beads to accent the dragonflies and butterflies. These are also from the 28 Lilac Lane Collection. You can also see the pretty shimmer from that Mica spray.

Online Card Class Background Check - Resist Bookmark!

I just love all the backgrounds I'm completing in the Online Card Class, Background Check! I just had to go ahead and create this fun bookmark using one of the Resist Backgrounds I made.

I also got some new fun accessories for the Prima Paper Doll stamp by Julie Nutting, Marisol and paired with some Maggie Holmes Crate Paper 6x6 paper it seemed like the perfect combination to create this sweet bookmark.

Here are these super sweet coordinating Prima stamps! I can't wait to try the bunny slippers!!

Online Card Class Background Check - Resist Backgrounds

I absolutely loved these techniques from Online Card Classes, Day 2 by Jennifer McGuire!

Here are my samples:

The script paper in the background is what I started with. I stamped over it with the flower stamp and Versamark Ink and then heat embossed it with clear embossing powder. After it cooled I blended Distress Ink over my background.

I started with a piece of white cardstock for this one and blended blue Distress Ink over the surface, a bit darker towards the bottom. Then I stamped with Versamark and heat embossed with clear powder. After, I sponged Distress Inks over top of the piece and wiped the excess away with a damp cloth.

For this one I used Glossy Paper and stamped the script with Distress Ink in Pine Needles. After drying completely I stamped the floral stamp with Versamark and heat set it without using any embossing powder. The Glossy Paper allows the Versamark to create a resist. Then I sponged over top with my inks and lightly wiped with a damp cloth.

Online Card Classes Background Check - Ink and Water Techniques!

I'm have soooo much fun doing the current Online Card Classes Background Check class! I just wish I had more time to play! I wanted to share Kristina Werner's techniques from Day 1 focusing on Ink and Water. My favourite backgrounds use Distress Ink and water, so this was fun!

For my first technique I smooshed these Distress Inks on my craft sheet, spritzed with water and laid my piece of watercolour paper directly into it. After drying I laid it back into the drops left on the craft sheet and dried again. Then, lastly I dropped some water onto it to react with the Distress Ink and dried it one last time. I love these colours together!

For the next four I used these Distress Inks and watercolour paper. For all I started out by smooshing the inks on the craft sheet and spritzing with water.

1) I used a piece of acetate, dipped into my inks and slathered it onto my paper, pulling it back and forth to get the look I wanted. I added water droplets onto the paper at the end.

2) I used an acrylic block and after smooshing it into the wet ink I pushed it onto my paper and moved it around. 

3) I used a paintbrush and dipped it into the wet ink to create a watercolour background. I need to play with this one more to get more of a watery look!

4) I had some ink left over on my craft sheet and I directly layered my paper into it several times and added some ink drops at the end. Waste not, want not, right!

OCC Background Check- Ink Reactions!

Ok, I am loving this Background Check class from Online Card Classes!! 

Here are my samples from the Ink Reactions on Day 1 by Jennifer McGuire:

On this one I sponged on my Distress Ink and then used a baby wipe over a stencil to remove some of the ink. I then embossed it in my Cuttlebug using a Spellbinders embossing mat and some extra cardstock layers for a shim along with the two B plates. 

Here you can see the embossing detail -I'll be using this technique a lot more!

For this one I sponged my background and inked up my stamp with green Distress Ink before spritzing with water. Then when I stamped, the water reacted with the Distress and left a light green stamped image. 

For this one I sponged my background and on one piece I used a baby wipe and the stencil- you can really see the effect on a dark surface! And on the other I stamped with Versamark before heat setting to create a subtle stamped effect. 

 

For the last one I thought I'd try out my Color Box inks. The wipe technique didn't quite work as well as with the Distress Inks so I ended up sponging Black Soot Distress Ink through this awesome Tim Holtz stencil. I don't know if this is a background I'd use, but it was fun to create and experiment with!

OCC Background Check Class - Ink Blending!

I just started the amazing Online Card Class 'Background Check' and love it already! This is Day 1 and Laura Bassen shared her ink blending techniques. Here are my versions:

I used specialty stamping paper for the first one, and I like the vibrant colours but I think the regular white cardstock blends better. 

I used Distress Inks for all these even though Laura used different types. I have more colours in the Distress Inks and am more familiar with blending them.

These samples are all in regular white cardstock, and I used the small round applicator and sponges. 

 

I love the masking technique on this one! I just punched out a 1" circle for the sun and used sticky notes to mask my horizon.  

I'm definitely not used to blending in the middle of a paper and Laura's tip to dab off almost all the ink and build layers was a good one. My second effort resulted in a bit lighter technique, but I like both!
