Lasting Memories - It's All About The Pink Layout!

Hello! I'm so excited to be joining the Lasting Memories Scrapbook Challenge Blog as a Guest Designer for another challenge week! This month the theme is Fall Events, and since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, this week our challenge is to create a layout about breast cancer or create a monochromatic pink layout. I am so fortunate that I don't have someone who has suffered from breast cancer in my immediate family, so I decided to create a pink layout in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. These photos are from when my youngest daughter, Erica, now 6, was born and her two older sisters came to meet her! I combined two different pink papers, using the fronts and the backsides and then layered the base on a pink watercolour background.

I decided to use the October Sketchy Challenge from Creative Scrapbooker Magazine and really love how easy it is to create with this sketch! I used some Tattered Angels Light Pink High Impact Paint to paint my cute wood veneer bird embellishment and then sponged pink Distress Ink around the edge. I even used the same pink ink to add a date stamp.

I grabbed a few pink embellishments from my stash and layered them, along with some pretty SpiegelMom Scraps pink sequins. (PS Use the code KARLA15 to save 15% off in the SMS Shop!)

I added a few more embellishments along with bottom of the photos and layered them over a journaling card from a cut apart sheet. You can see the Tattered Angels Tutti Frutti Glimmer Mist I smooshed onto the white cardstock background peeking out from behind the embellishments.

Lasting Memories - Blessed & So Grateful Thanksgiving Layout!

Hello! I'm so excited to be joining the Lasting Memories Scrapbook Challenge Blog as a Guest Designer for another challenge week! This month the theme is Fall Celebrations, and this week our challenge is to create a layout about Thanksgiving or something that you are thankful for. Since today is the Sunday before Thanksgiving in Canada I thought I'd do a double page layout using photos from last year's celebration!

I'm using paper from a Recollections fall paper pad, which has some lovely gold foil elements in it and a watercolor look. This coordinated nicely with the watercolor florals in the Pink and Cream Bouquet Ephemera from Cheeky Studios and the AC gold word thickers.

I added a bit more sparkle with some SpiegelMom Scraps sequins (don't forget to use the code KARLA15 to save 15% at the SMS Shop!) I like using Ranger Multi Medium, which dries clear, to apply the sequins.

I used sentiments from the Tim Holtz Chit Chat Occasions sticker booklet in both black and white around my pages.

This pretty chipboard flower sticker and the ampersand from one of Paige Evan's collections also have gold foil on them and coordinate nicely. I based my layouts on a double page sketch from a Use Your Own Paper class from Scrapbookin' Adventures

We always do a table selfie at big dinners!

I was able to size some of my photos at 3x4 and add the journaling in the Project Life app on my phone. It is free now and is such a wonderful way to create photo collages before you print. This way I was able to get extra pics on my pages! I also always edit my photos with Pic Tap Go, which is well worth the money, and can be used within the PL app!

I'd love to see what you come up with 💘Have a wonderful week ahead, and Happy Thanksgiving to all my Canadian friends!

Lasting Memories - Local Harvest Layout!

Hello! I hope you're all having a wonderful weekend! We've been busy with family activities and I've even had a little crafty time 😉 I am super excited to share that I'm a Guest Designer this month over on the Lasting Memories Scrapbook Challenge Blog - a wonderful blog dedicated to scrapbooking! Each week there is a new challenge for the monthly theme - this month the theme is Fall Celebrations - and this week our challenge is to create a layout about your harvest or your favorite plants or flowers. You have all month to play along with each challenge, so what are you waiting for?!!

I used a scrapbook sketch from the PageMaps September Sketches, which you can see below. I love starting with a sketch! I'm scrapping photos from a local farmer's market in Cochrane, Alberta. If you're in the area it's well worth stopping by to see the amazing vendors and produce available!

I used some paper from a watercolour fall Recollections paper pad from Michaels along with the newest Wild Whisper Farmhouse collection including pretty papers and diecut ephemera.

I layered my photos in a grid pattern over a stenciled pattern using Vicki Boutin stencils and Distress Oxide Inks. And, of course, I had to use some pretty sequins from SpiegelMom Scraps! (ps you can use the code KARLA15 to save 15% off your purchases in the SMS Shop)

Thanks so much for stopping by today! Be sure to head over to the Lasting Memories Scrapbook Challenge Blog for lots of scrappy inspiration and to enter your own layout! I can't wait to see what you come up with for this challenge 💛

Here's a look at the sketch I used from the PageMaps September Sketches -

Inspiration Saturday!

Hi crafty friends! I hope you've had a wonderful week. We've had lots of fun this week, it being Spring break and all :) Swimming, skating, sleepovers, lots of doll crafts for the girls' 18" dolls, sidewalk chalk, playing at the park, play dates and more! And now I've got some crafty inspiration for you -

1) I fell in love with this beautiful book by Clara Lidstrom - Vintage Crafts. This isn't a how to so much as inspiration to repurpose and renew those vintage finds. If you love making old new and finding the beauty in the past then you will love this book! I actually really enjoyed reading her write ups of each craft and chucked at her witty remarks. I borrowed this book from my local library.... which brings me to my next inspiration.

2) Have you checked in with your local library lately?! I love that at my library, the Calgary Public Library, you can get a library card for free which allows you to check out books, download eBooks and magazines - all at no charge. My kids and I attend programs at the library, and there are tons of online resources as well.

3) If you love to learn new techniques or find out more about bible journaling, planners or watercolor, just to name a few - you have to check out the awesome FREE classes at Scrapbook.com! I love taking online craft classes - it allows me to be home, use up my own supplies, and are a lower cost than in person classes. These classes are well put together by crafty 'celebrities' ;) who are wonderful teachers! There are also lots of great articles on the BLOG , like this one that I love on how Crafting Makes You Healthier and Happier!

4) The Lasting Memories Layout Challenges blog is a scrapbook challenge blog with weekly challenges that you can enter all month long. I love that there is a monthly theme and then a different weekly challenge. Just think if you were to enter all challenges you'd get 4-5 layouts a month done! You'll find lots of inspiration here!

5) I came across this lovely blog this week - Jaxx Crafty Creations by Jackie Aitken from Australia. Each post is filled with yummy projects, many featuring technique based cards. If you're looking to add some new techniques to your crafting you will definitely want to have a look! I think even making a tag for each technique shown would be a great activity - and get you thinking about what project you might want to use that on.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope you've found some crafty inspiration and enjoy a lovely weekend!
