Gifts For Baby Emily!

On November 24th my baby sister, Rayme, had a beautiful baby girl - after a very long and hard labour. She deserves a medal for all she went through! I am a very proud Auntie of new little Emily - and I think she's gorgeous!!

(And, I finally downloaded the Pic, Tap, Go app (that I used to brighten this pic up) and love it! Can't believe I waited so long to get it!!) So, of course I needed to send Miss Emily some handmade gifts and thought I'd share them with you too! I had this cute quilt topper in my fabric stash and didn't even realize it had the same images that are in the Kate's ABC's Cricut cartridge!

I cut lots of images from this adorable Kate's ABC's cartridge and Mod Podged them onto a canvas background covered with a background of patterned papers. The sunshine and clouds are from a Miss Kate Cuttables SVG download and I welded the diecut letters before cutting them out. After I glued all my images down I traced around them with a black pen and used some brown Distress Marker to watercolour in some shading. A bit of white gel pen and some stencilled glittery hearts add the finishing touch.

Since the quilt top was narrow and could have been used for a wallhanging, I decided to add a strip of pink fabric on each side to create a crib quilt size. I used some coordinating flannel fabric for the back of the quilt. Here's Erica showing it off! She was very excited to have a new cousin :)

And lastly, I had to make one of these adorable little crocheted Froggy Security Blankets from some pretty, soft baby yarn! I made one of these for Erica before she was born and she still sleeps with it. <3

My sister, Rayme, got our package the day before she went into labour. I'm happy to say both mom and baby are healthy and happy and we are so pleased to have another little member in our family! Crocheted With Love Gift Tag and Video!

Hey there!! How is everyone today?! Hopefully great! I just finished crocheting this cute baby rattle for a friend who's having a baby and, of course, I had to add a little handmade gift tag! The Knit Happens stamp set from Pretty Cute Stamps was perfect!

After cutting out my tag using a Spellbinders die I sponged blue Distress Ink around the edges and then stamped on the sweet sentiment and hearts included in the stamp set.

I used the coordinating SVG files and my Cricut Explore to cut out the yarn and crochet hook diecuts and then stamped on them and coloured with coloured pencils.

I used some foam dots to pop up my little yarn cut and tied my tag onto the baby rattle with blue and white bakers twine. Now, this little baby rattle is all ready to give to my friend who's expecting a new baby boy anyday!

PDE Friday Linky Party - Homemade Granola and Crocheted Owl Basket!

Happy Friday friends! I'm sharing this recipe for Homemade Granola over at the PDE Linky Party blog today.  This is something that I made as a gift for my sister, including it in a handmade crocheted owl basket with a few other yummy goodies. You can find the recipe online here!

I recycled a jar that I cleaned well and added a pretty hand dyed ribbon along with a label sticker and a circle of patterned paper to cover the top of the jar. I really believe presentation is everything, and even a small gift can be very special with a little effort!

I added the jar of granola to this cute owl basket along with some chocolate covered popcorn and some Banana Bread Tea from David's Tea - one of my fav tea places!

I followed a pattern that was in a magazine, but I did find a free online pattern that looks very similar here. 

After my sister took her goodies out of the basket she filled it with some pretty red ornaments.

Crocheted With Love!

I am having an awesome summer, and I really hope you all are too! I'm not getting quite as much craftiness in as I normally would, but I started to bring a crochet project along with me when I take the kids to the park. This way I can work on something that's easily portable and feel like I'm accomplishing something while they play.

Since my project is still ongoing (I'll share it when I'm done!), it did get me in the mood to create a sweet card and tag that I can attach to my gift when it's complete. I am love, love, loving this adorable Pretty Cute Stamps set Knit Happens. Ok, how cute is the name of this set!! 

I used some Cosmo Cricket paper from the Odds and Ends collection I picked up quite a while ago for the background of my card and tag. The balls of yarn were stamped on a background that I created on watercolour paper with Distress Inks and water on a craft sheet using a smooshing technique. I love how the colours blended together! I added some Ranger Clear Rock Candy Distress Stickles to add glitter to my yarn and popped some of the balls up with foam tape. I absolutely adore this little teensy crochet hook!! I used Glossy Accents on it after tucking it into my basket for a shiny look.

On the tag you can see more glittery fun on my yarn and the cute hearts included in the set. I popped up the yarn label after adding the super sweet face! I just love the little faces that come in this set <3

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!!

Wow, another week gone by! Can't believe it's December already. Well, I'm well on my way to being completely ready for Christmas (and baby)!

I found these awesome tags at Momomushy which you can print in color or black and white.  I printed these in B&W on cardstock and colored them with Prismacolor markers.

I love the online subscription of Crochet World Magazine, which I can access from my PC or I-Pad!  This 'Chunky Speckled Neck Warmer' is a super easy pattern in the December 2011 issue - just 45 double crochets in 9-13 rows done in a 6 - bulky yarn with a size 10 hook.  The starting chain really has to be done as loose as possible.

I wanted a cute tag I could attach to the top of the neck warmers, so I used this digital penguin stamp I had previously downloaded and opened it in Microsoft Word, added my own font underneath and put 4 on a page of cardstock to print out and color.  I then cut them in rectangles and punched a hole to add a ribbon in the corner.

Of course, Christmas cards! This cute snowman is a digital stamp from Hero Arts that I downloaded from Two Peas in a Bucket and layered on sparkly pink cardstock, which I embossed.  The scarf is a separate stamp (included) and layered over top the snowman with foam dots.  I colored this little guy with Prismacolor colored pencils using a great tutorial on colored pencils.

These cards were made with a cute 12x12 cardstock of doors, which I cut out and embellished with Stickles and popped up with foam dots over embossed cardstock.  On some I added ribbon and stamped a sentiment.

Week in Review!

It feels like I've been up to so much over the last 10 days! I'm really focusing on getting ready for Christmas and have also been trying to get as much crafting time in as possible before baby arrives! Counting down to 6 weeks :)

 From the December 2010 Create and Decorate magazine I stitched up these cute felt bells with appliqued details.  The felt flowers were cut freehand from felt and layered 2 together with a brad in the center.

 I used the Gypsy and Cricut with the Wall Decor and More cartridge to  make these two cards.  The top was for a little girl's birthday and the bottom was for Thank You cards for a baby shower (which my awesome sister and oldest daughter surprised me with!!) I was able to easily make 10 cards assembly style this way.

As always Scrapbooker's Paradise had another awesome Toonie Thursday project- they made a really beautiful, super easy Christmas card with Smooch ink spread on a tree stamp, an embossed image at the top of the card and some cool Shimmer spray along with an envelope cut from 1/2 of a regular, long envelope with a piece of coordinating paper glued on the edge.

I made one with a 'Smooch' stamped flower image on brown cardstock, which I embossed with a sentiment and sprayed with Shimmer spray.

I also finished a pair of mittens for Amie from the Crochet World Babies and Kids issue.  They were super easy and are going to be really warm!

Froggy Security Blanket

I saw this totally cute frog blanket in the Babies & Kids Fall 2011 issue of Crochet World and had to make it.  Two months to go till baby's arrival and so many ideas!!

I used Red Heart Soft Baby Steps yarn in 'Binky Print', which is sooo soft, for my froggy, and I actually embroidered the eyes instead of using the two different crochet colors (white and main) for the eyes.

Baby Crochet

I've recently taken up crochet again and I'm so excited! There are so many wonderful patterns available and great websites. These cute baby items are from the Crochet World for babies and kids issue.  This issue is downloadable, and you can actually get on online subscription for Crochet World for only $15.97.

My 4 year old is asking for a pair of mittens, just like baby.  She was very excited to pick out her yarn. The larger size is worked the same, just with a larger yarn and hook!

My grandmother taught me to crochet when I was younger and I wasn't sure how easy it would be to pick up again, but I was very pleased to be able to quickly whip these up. You-Tube is also great to help figure out a stitch you're stuck on!

I also love the Lion Brand site which has tons of free patterns and helpful tidbits and Homemade Tip Junkie site, where you can search for instructions for lots of great crochet patterns (and other crafty stuff) submitted by readers!
